Screw Gear
Multiple Motion Capability
Due to their simple nature, helical gears can be driven by a helix (worm gear) or by the gear itself (rack and pinion), allowing all forward and reverse motion capabilities from one bag.
Save Time and Money
Thanks to its machine screw compatibility, you can complete your project faster and at a much lower cost than a specially ordered mating worm.
Features
Fine Adjustment & Space Saving
Helical gears are ideal for adjustment applications in tight areas. Fine adjustment and positive positioning are possible.
Lubricant Types to Look For
One lubricant commonly used in worm gears is mineral-based compound gear oils. No additives can be added to the lubricant to allow it to overcome sliding wear indefinitely
Screw Gear Manufacturer
Typically used when significant deceleration is required. The reduction ratio is determined by the number of starts of the worm and the number of teeth on the worm gear. However, the sliding contact of the worm gear is very quiet, but it is easy to generate heat, and the transmission efficiency is relatively low.
As for the material, generally speaking, the worm is made of hard metal, and the worm wheel is made of relatively soft metal such as aluminum bronze. This is because the worm gear has more teeth than the worm gear, usually 1 to 4. By reducing the hardness of the worm gear, the friction of the worm gear is reduced. Another feature of worm manufacturing is that the cutting and grinding of the worm’s teeth requires specialized machinery. On the other hand, worm gears can be made with hobbing machines for spur gears. But because of the different tooth profiles, it is not possible to cut multiple gears at once by stacking gear blanks like a spur gear.

Custom Screw Gears for high-speed reductions
The industrial application of a worm gear is similar to standard spur gears and worms, it is a cylindrical gear similar to a screw, allowing the use of smaller gearboxes or planetary drives while maintaining torque or power. The reduction ratio of worm gears is usually 20:1, and even as high as 300:1 or more.
Few gear manufacturers have the equipment to design metal parts as precisely as we do. Fewer worm gear manufacturing companies have machining equipment to check the tolerances we can live with.
What we offer
Catalogs of worm gear sets are often available in warehouses, with a variety of axial distances and gear ratios, with a fine degree of variation. We can also calculate and produce customer-specific axial distances and gear ratios at the factory. We prefer to produce worm gear sets for right-handed users, but these sets can also be designed for left-handed users upon request.
We perform all major soft and hard machining steps in-house, including annealing in our own oven. Thanks to the extensive production depth, we are able to carry out highly complex machining tasks precisely and with the highest quality according to our customers’ expectations. For more information, please email us and we will reply you within 24 hours.
Screw Gears Used for Non-Intersecting Shafts
Helical gears sometimes crossed helical gears, are used for motion transmission between non-intersecting shafts. Helical gears used in parallel beams have the same helix angle but opposite directions. For shaft angles other than the parallel, any helix angle can be chosen, and assuming no profile offset, the angle of intersection of the shafts is the sum of the individual helix angles. Helical gears have point contact, are less efficient than parallel or vertical axis gears, and cannot transmit heavy loads.
Also, friction and wear can result if the same material is used in the helical gear. Therefore, KHK recommends using different materials in pairs. In addition, unlike bevel gears, there is no limit to the number of teeth combinations, and the transmission ratio is the number of teeth of the driving gear divided by the number of teeth of the driven gear. See the Gear Applications page for helical gears in action.
